For many people, consulting a lawyer is stressful. It doesn't have to be.
If you've never consulted a lawyer before, don't worry. My commitment is to make sure you feel comfortable and well informed every step of the way.
Your first appointment will be a casual and relaxed consultation. If you have documents that pertain to your legal issue (tax and wage records, police reports, a lease or contract, an old will, etc.) bring them along. If you're preparing to write a will, I will send you a questionnaire to complete before your appointment. Otherwise, there's no need to do anything in advance.
When you arrive, I will introduce myself and ask a series of questions about your situation. Feel free to tell me anything you think I should know, but it's also OK to just answer the questions. After about 45 minutes, I'll be ready to recommend a preliminary course of action and discuss it with you.
Your initial consultation is a chance for you to get to know me, and for me to determine whether I can help. At the end of the meeting, I'll tell you what I think I can do for you and give you an estimate of the expenses involved, including the amount of the initial retainer. You are then welcome to go home and discuss our meeting with friends and family; you have absolutely no obligation to retain me as your lawyer.
